Greetings from SHIKSHA. Chemical Engineering is very good and evergreen field Talking about the placements of Chemical Science and Technology at IIT Guwahati is, almost 100% ratio is seen every year. The average package of Chemical Science and Technology at IIT Guwahati is around 8 to 10 lakhs per annum. Many Multinational Companies visit here and offers the good packages to Chemical Science and Technology Engineers. Companies like Reliance Industries, PepsiCo, Glenmark, Wipro, Asian Paints, Sun pharma, Dr.Reddy, Zydus Wellness, Cadilla Pharma, Adani Group, HPCL, BPCL, etc. Since Chemical Branch is best and evergreen, the placement ratio of chemical branch will also increase in future with good amount of packages by the companies. Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati is one of the best government colleges of India. IIT ranks in 6 in the list of top colleges of India. Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati offers many courses out of which Chemical Science Technology is one of the courses which offers about 40 seats to students. IIT-Guwahati is known for its great infrastructure faculty with 5 to 10 years of experience and they are very knowledgeable and facilities like Wi-Fi, Sports Complex and labs with better equipment and machines. Chemical Science Technology is one of the new course in which there no new knowledge about the course to other companies. Therefore the placement of Chemical Science Technology is good despite of every opposite conceptions. About more than 70 % of students of Chemical Science Technology were given the offer letter for the jobs. The average salary was 10.5 lakhs per annum it was given by the non-core companies. Established in 1994, with state of art Infrastructure and excellent brand resonance, the college delivers all-round development for students. After considering the placement report of 2016 for IIT, Guwahati for chemical engineering branch, out of the 40 students who enrolled for placements, 35 got placed. Some core companies this visit like Biocon, Narayan Cadillac, Sun Pharma, Ranbaxy, Brenntag Industries, Glenmark, etc. with Research Development jobs but gave away very few offers, Also some placements were mostly considering Business Intelligence, data analytics, banking finance, marketing and other such companies due to the lack of ample of core chemical manufacturing companies visiting the campus and thus rolled out IT based roles. IIT, Guwahati has dedicated placement and training cell which is huge but they are mostly IT companies with big brand recognition. Students usually take up Masters in the same college to increase the chances of getting into core pharma and chemical sector based company. where Placements are phenomenal. The average package was 5 LPA and the highest was 14 LPA and the minimum offered range was 4.5 LPA. This brings the total batch placement percentage of IIT-Guwahati, Chemical Engineering branch in 2016 to 85%, with the highest placement package being Rs 14 lakhs.

IITs are the premier engineering institutes. IIT-Guwahati is one of the old IITs and lakhs of students try to get admission here every year. According to the National Institute Ranking Framework, IIT-Guwahati ranks 7th among all engineering colleges in India which is a pretty good rank. Computer Science and Engineering at IIT-Guwahati is pretty good. For Chemical Engineering, in 2015 out of 49 students who applied to placements from Chemical department, 33 students were placed meaning 67 percent placement for chemical engineering which is an okayish number. The average salary was around 7.5 LPA and the maximum salary was around 20 LPA. All these figures suggest pretty good placements at IIT-Guwahati. There is a program in B.Tech in Chemical Science and Technology offered by IIT, Guwahati. Note that it is different from Chemical Engineering and you should not be confused. Chemical Engineering is a mixture of physical chemistry along with physics and other disciplines. Chemical Science and Technology, on the other hand, is highly chemistry oriented. It has got features of drug design, environmental science, medicinal chemistry, material science and even molecular biology. It is a research-oriented discipline. It's a contemporary of Engineering Physics. However, an important thing about CST is that its syllabus covers the topic - "nano-chemistry and nano-technology". This is a compelling reason for many who think nanotech is the future in the field of engineering. Now, let's get back to placements. Though it isn't a core branch, still the stats are satisfying. Around 66% students get placed, part of which in core jobs, others in software and IT sector. There was not much information on the college website. But looking at the facts at other websites, the average package is about 6 LPA (in core chemical science sector).

It is a mixture of a profusion of physical chemistry along with a mess of physics, maths and many other things. Whereas, in Chemical Science and Technology (CST) focus is mainly on chemistry. All those inorganic, organic and other aspects. CST, on the other hand, is highly chemistry oriented. It has aspects of drug design, medicinal chemistry, material science, environmental science and even molecular biology. It is a research oriented discipline. It's a contemporary form of Engineering Physics. However, an important thing about the CST is that its syllabus covers the topic-"nanochemistry and nano-technology". If you apply for Chemical Science and Technology, you will be working for job profiles like Supply Chain Management, Process Control, Industrial Consultancy, Research and Development.
