How are the placements of B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur?

Greetings from SHIKSHA. The placements at IIT Kharagpur for Civil Engineering is seen very best. Almost around 95 to 100% every year. This credit goes to training and Placement Cell department of IIT Kanpur. The average package is around 6 to 8 lakhs here. Civil Engineering is among the evergreen fields of Engineering. Many companies take part in Placement Cell at IIT Kanpur. Companies like DLF, L&T, ONGC, Adani Group, Aditya Birla Group, Vedanta group, Goldman Sachs, Google, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Meru Cabs, Microsoft, Oracle, OYO Bosch Group, Shell, Snapdeal, Stayzilla, Parthenon Group, TSMC, etc. takes Students from here. Many of the students are getting very good packages in Civil Engineering Branch. Nowadays, placements of core engineering branches will increase like for Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, CSE, etc. with very good amount of packages. Especially in IITs, the packages will be always better and higher than previous year because more and more companies take part in Placement Cell. There are many opportunities of jobs for Civil Engineers in Government Sector and PSUs.

When planning to find a career in a conventional and promising branch of engineering, Civil Engineering is one of the most sought-after options among students in India as it is one of the core branches. A career after civil engineering is very rewarding. There are jobs that involve supervision, construction, design, and analyses of private as well as public projects, such as dams, highways, canals, and bridges. The profession requires excellent skills for both administration and supervision of projects. Like the icing on the cake, if you are from IIT Kharagpur, it is far way good than others. Some well-known options include consulting firms, railways, defense force, and municipal corporations. Civil engineering includes different specializations such as construction, geotechnical, environmental, coastal and transportation engineering. Both public sector undertakings and private companies visit IIT Kharagpur. Around 70% candidates get placed every year. We cannot the package sizes of Civil Engineering with that of CSE or MNC but they are good enough. In core branch, these days the average package is around 8 LPA. If the candidate choses to go in software sector, the pay scale increases but one cannot expect the same in the core jobs.

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is one of the best government colleges of India. IIT ranks in the top 5 in the list of top colleges of India. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur offers many courses out of which Civil engineering is one of the course which offers about 67 seats to students. IIT Kharagpur is known for its great infrastructure faculty with 5 to 10 years of experience and they are very knowledgeable and facilities like Wi-Fi, Sports Complex and labs with better equipment and machines. IIT Kharagpur provides its civil engineering students the hands on experience by letting them work on the instruments and letting them work on more realistic places like roads, garden or bare ground, etc. IIT Kharagpur placement cell attracts lot of major companies of India as well as abroad. Some of the companies that comes in the placement of civil engineering are as follows: Accenture |Hero Moto Corp | HONEYWELL Indian Navy |Nagarro| PricewaterhouseCoopers |TCS Most of the students of civil engineering gets placed in the placement. But, only few of the students gets placed in core competencies like L&T, Indian Navy, etc. and rest of the students get placed in the software companies. Average salary provided to the students of civil engineering is about 8-9 lakh per annum. Being in the IIT gets you good packages more than any other private colleges could provide. Hope it helps.

Hello, the placements of civil are not bad at all at IIT, Kharagpur because of the fact that there are so many students who get placed in non-core companies. Even then, considering the placement of civil at other premier institutes also, IIT Kharagpur is easily at par or even slightly better than them. The list of past recruiters who came in the placement season 2015-16 at IIT Kharagpur for civil engineering students can be seen in the link given below:- <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://why.iitkgp.ac.in/sites/default/files/CIVIL" style='word-wrap:break-word;'>http://why.iitkgp.ac.in/sites/default/files/CIVIL</a> ENGINEERING.pdf. The average package offered to a student appearing for core civil job profile is around Rs 6 lakhs per annum and the highest package is around Rs 20 lakhs to Rs 25 lakhs per annum (offered by Schlumberger Asia Services Limited). Other recruiters include Tata Steel, Coal India Limited, Shell Technology India, Jaiprakash Associates Limited,etc and the average package offered to other students who appear for non-core job profiles like data analytics, financing, business development, etc is around Rs 8 lakh per annum, and the recruiters include Cognizant, Future First Group, Flipkart, Wipro, Barclay's, etc. Hope this helps! The placements from B.Tech’s civil branch are nice, though IIT Guwahati has the best civil department, but the Kharagpur branch is also exceptional. The students mostly got interned with many companies getting a huge learning experience from construction sites in their 3rd or 4th semester. Talking about placement statistics, the highest placement has gone upto 29 lakhs per annum this recruitment season whereas, the average being from 14 lakhs per annum in reputed companies. Although, the companies coming for recruitment having non civil structure also allow civil students to be a part of their interview and select many of them. For example, recently, one of my senior from Kharagpur (Civil stream) got selected in Axis Bank. This is the plus point for the students opting for civil. So, here is all the placement scenario and of civil engineering. Also, one may also start with his or her own construction sites, or be a part of big corporates such as Ultratech Cement, Jaypee Cement, Koromandal King, etc. I hope it helped. Thank you

IIT-Kharagpur has managed to attract the best of the companies in Indian market including the (core ones) in civil, IT, marketing, banking and computer science companies. The top recruiters that showed up during the placement season in 2017, considering all the branches in IIT-Kharagpur, paying nothing less than 10-12 LPA are: Goldman Sachs, Google, Hindustan Unilever, Housing, ITC, Meru Cabs, Microsoft, Oracle, OYO Rooms, Bosch, Schlumberger, Shell, Snapdeal, Stayzilla, Parthenon Group, TSMC, Visa and ZS Associates. Highest package offered (International) $250,000 (around Rs 1.54 crore per annum) Highest package offered (Domestic) Rs 42 LPA For the civil branch itself, the average placement offered to the students is 7.8 LPA with the highest package placement being offered is 32 LPA (domestic). As the name suggests, IIT Kharagpur is the best premier institution in the country with world class faculty and resources available at the campus for the extensive research in the campus. It is one of the renowned institute in the country. Now, talking about Civil engineering, it is the branch of engineering which is concerned with the design and construction engineering part. In the 7th semester, all the students are eligible sit for placement drives conducted by the concern department of training and development in the campus with top companies visiting the campus for the students. But, costly companies hire the student as Trainee because the work of a civil engineer is full of risk and responsibilities so they hire you as Trainee. Once you complete your tenure as Trainee, your pay and package increase satisfactorily in the company and then also gain more more experience in your field, you are successful in the field. Package in core field ranging to 6 lakhs in companies like RITES, SOMA, L&T, TATA, Reliance, NHAI, etc. are the core companies which hire the student.
