How are the placements of B.Tech in Civil Engineering from VIT University, Vellore?

Civil engineering in VIT is a good option. Faculties are decent and the opportunities of projects are also as per standards of good engineering colleges. However, the problem with civil engineering is that it is literally a dying field. Don't ever anticipate that after 3-4 years, there will be any progress in this field because no matter how many infrastructural projects come up, the intake of civil engineers in core jobs will be same. I don't know why it's that way. Talking about placements in the civil dept. of VIT, it's downright poor. About 30-40%. The best company that recruits from VIT is L&T construction. However, you'll have to be in the top 40s for it. Godrej Properties gives good package, however, their intake is less than 5. Tata housing, Saint Gobain are other 2 core firms that recruited last year but they too have a meagre intake and pay package. If you want to go for higher studies then you might take up civil in VIT. It is mainly about field work and you have to be very focused in your work site also.

All the way, it is known for its placements in the basic engineering branches like computer science, information technology, mechanical, electronics and communication engineering, automobile engineering and other. The civil department has the worst placement record in VIT University, with that being said only 30 to 40% students actually get placed. Larsen and Turbo is the biggest recruiter for civil department but you need to be at least in the top 40 students of your batch to be eligible for placement in the same. This is followed by Godrej which happens to be the second-best recruiter for the branch as the intake of students is less than 5. Other than that, there are a few i.e. four companies like Tata Housing, Saint Gobain but they have even lower student intake and package offered. Rest of the students probably get placed in IT companies, that being the mass recruiters, like TCS, Wipro, Cognizant and various others, which take students from VIT in abundance. Hello, VIT University is one of the top universities on India for engineering. VIT has been ranked at 13th position among the engineering as per the NIRF rankings 2017. It has experienced faculty and It is known for its placement records. Placements in VIT include mass recruiters like TCS, WIPRO, Cognizant, etc. They intake students in huge numbers like around 1000-1500 (each company). In terms of core companies for civil engineering Some of the top companies like L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, Godrej Properties, Afcons infrastructure, etc. Several startups also visit and recruit students. The highest package offered by core company to a civil engineering student was around 8 lakhs per annum while the average would be around 3-4 lakhs per annum only. Almost everyone gets a job but a handful of students get job in construction oriented companies while some others get placed in IT sectors.
