    Some good number of faculties in the department are specialized in signal processing and associated areas of electronics. VLSI and Microelectronics group has comparatively less number of faculties (only 5 or 6). As of now pure electromagnetics and microwaves has only two faculty. Information theory and other communication stuff have some acceptable amount of faculty numbers. Why are all these information important for a UG student? Answer is simple, the optional courses and projects offered will be having approximately same ratio of streams as that of faculty expertise.     IIT Guwahati provides you with good education and an environment where you can learn things by yourself and became proficient in those skills. This is true for almost all the branches.
    Here is some of the insights of the college.
    Intake:- 73 (ECE)
    Placements
    Placements of ECE is if top notch.
    Average package:- 10 lpa
    Highest package:- 25 lpa (domestic)
    Recruiters:- Dell, Flipkart, Google, HP, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Oracle, Service Now, Snapdeal, Thornton, TomasettiVisa Inc., Vodafone, Walmart, etc.

    IIT ranks 6 in the list of top colleges of India. Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati offers many courses out of which Electronics and communication engineering is one of the courses which offers about 70 seats to students. It offers the students with hands on experience programs to work on real time based machines in industry interactive sessions. IIT-Guwahati is known for its great infrastructure faculty with 5 to 10 years of experience and they are very knowledgeable and facilities like Wi-Fi, Sports Complex and labs with better equipment and machines.     IITs are the premier engineering institutes. IIT-Guwahati is one of the old IITs and lakhs of students try to get admission here every year. According to the National Institute Ranking Framework, IIT-Guwahati ranks 7th among all engineering colleges in India which is a pretty good rank.
    Electronics and Communication Engineering at IIT-Guwahati is pretty good.
    For ECE Engineering, in 2015 out of 76 students who applied to placements from the ECE department, 63 students were placed meaning 83 percent placement for ECE which is an impressive number.

    Almost everyone in my ECE batch got placed in good companies. The average salary was 10 LPA. We had all major companies visiting the campus - Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Dell, Cisco, and many startups. They also offered super packages for students with distinctive capabilities.
    The placement cell is a very dedicated cell here at IITG. The placements are very good, with some branches like Design getting up to 100% placed students. Last year, the average package for Design was 16 LPA, with highest going up to 30 LPA. Companies like Microsoft had a CTC of 21 LPA.
