Hello dear, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is the oldest IIT established in 1950 but started in 1951 and since then the Department of Electrical Engineering is actively engaged in teaching and research with modern laboratories and excellent members of the faculty as it is a core branch. The Department of Electrical Engineering offers two undergraduate programs in electrical engineering and instrumentation engineering. Placement and job opportunities are excellent. The career development centre tries its best to make sure that everyone gets placed. There are a huge number of companies visiting the campus for recruitment December onwards. All the final year students can apply to the companies in their respective fields. Generally, the package and number of opportunities for jobs in the field related to software development, data analytics is higher as compared to jobs in the core department like electrical, civil and mechanical. For software, it is around 15 LPA and for others, it's around 8-10 LPA. The companies which visited the campus during the placement season are as follows: 1. BHEL 2. Ashok Leyland 3. HPCL 4. Mahindra & Mahindra 5. John Deere 6. L&T Construction 7. BEL 8. Assad 9. Godrej & Boyce The average package offered is about 10 LPA and the highest reaching up to 36 LPA for the last year. Electrical Engineering is a good and evergreen field. IIT, Kharagpur is among the top IITs. Talking about the placements of electrical engineering at IIT- Kharagpur, it is almost 95%. The average package of electrical engineering at IIT, Delhi is around 7-8 LPA. It is good opportunity for Electrical Engineers in future Days that many vacancies will be seen in government sector in upcoming years. Hi, The average package of electrical at IIT KGP is as follows EE(4 year) 15.25 lpa(2016), 12 lpa(2015) EE(Dual degree) 14.5 lpa(2016) , 14.5 lpa(2015) Around 61% students were placed this year in first phase, the low %(which is not so low :-p) shows that in EE, students generally choose research field , so goes for higher studies. Almost every department's package reduces this year. One of the main reason is that All India Placement Committee banned newly start-up's from the placement process . According o previous data's regarding security of job, the job security is very low in newly growing start-ups. Second reason might be demonatisation. And beware it's just average , if you are a 9 pointer , your package in electrical will be around 30-40 lpa . :-) All the best.

The placement of electrical engineering from IIT, Kharagpur is remarkable, because electrical being the core branch and then having the icing of effortless teachings and training in IIT, Kharagpur. Moreover, the placements from the branch are almost hundred percent, except those who opt for higher studies or in research. Now, the placements statistics show an average placement of Rs 18 lakh per annum highest being around Rs 32 lakhs from the respective streams. Also, many large corporates visit the campus and offer abroad placements. One may be available for the branch at around 600 to 700 rank in general category and around 3000 in SC and 4000 in ST category. Hello, let's talk about the branch first, in most IITs, the name electrical engineering means that the students will be taught both electrical and electronics. But in Kharagpur, electrical engineering students are emphasized to learn about electrical machines only. There are other courses such as control systems and embedded systems but their course content is neither well developed nor sufficient to get an industry job in it. Especially embedded systems. More than 1000 students were placed in the first season of the placement drives in which about 185 companies ordered PPO (Pre Placement Offer) and 129 offers were accepted by the students. Companies like ABB, ADOBE, TATA, MICROSOFT, L&T, SAMSUNG, etc. International offers in the company like:- NTT JAPAN, GOOGLE USA, CISCO, SHELL, DELLOITE, etc. With the batch of about 58 students about 43 students got a package of 12 Lacs at an average and taking about dual degree, they got a package of 14 Lacs on an average. Many students didn't appear for the drives they opt for CAT, GMAT, IAS and other govt services. So these statistics indicated that placement is very good in the year and have received hot mark expectations from the premium level Institute. ABB JINDAL POWER Air bus engineering Mahindra Reliance Power are also the prominent recruitment agency of the institute. Average package- 12 Lacs in the batch of 58 students this year. Rest were opting for other studies and service in the country. It was the best!
