NITs are the premier engineering institutes in India. NIT Calicut is one these NITs and is pretty well known all over India. According to the National Institute ranking framework it stands at 44th rank among all the engineering colleges in India.

NITC was established in 1961 and was known as Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC) until 2002. It is one of the NITs established by the Govt. of India for imparting high standard technical education to students from all over the country.
