Mechanical Engineering is one of the core branches, also one of the evergreen disciplines. There are ample job opportunities in the field if you are passionate and hardworking enough. Nowadays the scope of mechanical engineering is expanding beyond its traditional boundaries and is more of inter-disciplinary in nature. The pay profile in core mechanical jobs is lower than CSE and some others but this is no comparison. Branch should be taken on basis of interest. Money should not be the motivation.

Hello, the average package is between Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs (optimistically) in any branch at IIT, Delhi. Average package of a B.Tech student fetching mechanical core job is around Rs 8 lakhs per annum. Please note that there are only few core companies which allow all B.Tech + M.Tech dual degree students together. In such cases, normally salary is more for M.Tech dual than B.Tech.
