How are the placements of B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur?

As the questions ask about that the scenario of the mechanical department in IIT-Kharagpur. Let me tell you that there are two aspects in the questions. 1- What is the highest package they get? 2- The core company that visits the campus. So, if you are talking about mechanical engineering, you will be hired as a graduate engineer trainee in the company and you will be on watch i.e. your performance till 12-18 months and as you gain experience in the field you will start to expand your wings in the field as you gain experience. The more you gain experience in the field the more you start to earn. Generally, the starting income of the graduate trainee is around 6 Lacs to 8 Lacs. The company's like NTPC, Mahindra, Tata, Nissan, Hero Motocorp, Subros, ABB, etc. are the prominent recruiters of the campus. Offering the best opportunity in the field and making the best use of them is the main responsibility. Average package +-6 lakh and 8 lacs as per the companies and profile.

IIT-Kharagpur invites the best recruiters in the market during the internship and placement season covering various sectors such as core engineering, IT, Finance, Consulting, Automobiles, PSUs, etc. Mechanical engineering has always been a highly demanded branch across the globe. Taking the average of placements of mechanical engineers from all IITs would roughly come to 78 - 84%. That's a good number because a high number of those who don't get placed have different aims and go for exams like UPSC Civil Services, Indian Engineering Services(allows mechanical engineers), CAT (doing MBA in IIMs), GATE (M.Tech and Government PSU Jobs), GMAT, GRE, etc. Mechanical Engineers do not generally start high on packages (when compared to CSc. and Earth Sciences like petroleum and mining). They manage to get 8-12 LPA on an average. Some may go little above it and some may even be below (totally depends on your GPA, internships, and other experiences you gained while your life in IIT). Last year placement says Highest Package is 15 lacs where the average is around 6 lacs.

It is an Indian premier institute and the IIT Kharagpur has the best placements of the mechanical engineering and the highest pack for this branch is 98 LPA and the average pack is 14.6 LPA plus perks and the big companies like Honda, Hero, Bajaj etc. Visit this college regularly.

B.Tech from IIT, Kharagpur in mechanical placement has a huge scope and ever-increasing placement graph every year. There are almost all big multinational corporates visiting the campus to select the most creative minds. Though, IIT tag is not valuable unless you come to its level. Syllabus of IIT can be crammed and need a lot of hard work. Still, students are unable to achieve that remark and are unable to show their skills. So, apart from what the college provides, invest a lot in yourself. Now coming to the placement data, the average placement is around Rs 14 lakhs where highest being upto Rs 30 lakhs. Also, these students enjoy a privilege of having numerous job offers from abroad, which contribute a lot in making the high scale average and the number of quality placements. Comparing among all the IITs, Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Mumbai and IIT, Kanpur has the best branch as mechanical. The above rankings vary every year. Thank you. Hope it helped.

Hello, as far as the placements are concerned, it totally depends upon various factors such as: 1) Your skill set because not all students from IITs get very high packages but yes they do get the best available in the market depending upon their capability and creativity. 2) Major factor is the organization you opt to work with. Many engineers, despite being from a different domain, choose to work in IT field and get higher initial packages and growth. IIT-Kharagpur, other than being an IIT, is among the top 5 engineering colleges in India and that is the reason why placements at this college for any branch are never going to disappoint you anytime. Some of the highest paying companies that came to the campus for recruiting mechanical students were: FMCG Hindustan Unilever, Procter & and GambleITC Oil & Gas Schlumberger, Shell, Halliburton, Transocean, Exxon and MobilONGC Mining Rio Tinto, Joy Global, Tenova Takraf and BHP Billiton Manufacturing Tata Steel/Corus, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Dow Chemical Company Energy/Generation NTPC Also, all these above-mentioned companies being the core mechanical ones offered a package of more than 8-9 LPA with 45 LPA being the highest package offered for mechanical students. So, if you are considering to get admission to this college in mechanical branch and are in a state of doubt, you must do so without thinking twice. The department, right from the inception in 1951 has been offering undergraduate and advanced studies in the three broad fields of applied mechanics and engineering design, thermal sciences and energy systems, and manufacturing processes and systems. The placement seasons sees many companies opening up for Mechanical Engineering students as it is one of the core branches. From what is understood, the recruiters look for aptitude skills and communication skills through an aptitude test. Later in the personal interview rounds, discussions normally hover around technical questions or behavior related questions. One should know what they are looking for before making a hit. And the curriculum t IIT KGP makes the students industry-ready. There are internships for the second and the third year which helps them to get the experience of working in the industry. Taking a look at the placement statistics of last year, I got hold of these things- Out of the 66 registered students, 52 got placed. This is about 78%. I am talking about the core jobs. Others went out for noncore and software jobs as they pay higher. The average package in core sector is 12 lac per annum.
