How are the placements of B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Madras?

Mechanical engineering is very good and evergreen field. Talking about the placements of mechanical engineering at IIT Madras is, almost 95% ratio is seen every year. The average package of mechanical engineering at IIT Madras is around 7 to 9 LPA. Many multinational companies visit here and offer good packages to mechanical engineers. Companies like Bosch Group , Reliance Industries, Mahindra Group, Welspun, Larsen and Toubro, Tata Steel, Adani Group, Aditya Birla Group , Vedanta group ,Arcelor Mittal, HPCL, BPCL, Mahindra and Mahindra, Mercedes, Ford, General motors, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, etc. Since mechanical engineering branch is best and evergreen, the placement ratio of mechanical branch will also increase in future with good amount of packages by the companies. Talking about the IITs, all IITs placement ratio will also increase or the packages will increase because IITs are the top most Engineering Institute worldwide so many companies will take part in campus placement at IITs for quality engineers required. So the placement ratio of IIT, Madras is really good and will remain like this or will increase in future.

It is an Indian premier institute and the IIT Madras has the best placements of the mechanical engineering and the highest pack for this branch is 1.15 crore per year and the average pack is 15.6 LPA plus perks and the big companies like Honda, Hero, Bajaj etc. Visit this college regularly.

The placements for B.Tech in mechanical engineering are far better and most quality oriented. Although from all the top 10 IITs, the placements are remarkable and highest of its kind. The one thing that should be compared while selection process is the culture and the past alumni network, faculty members and the with least priority but still important location. Now, firstly talking about the placement statistics, the average placements from the college is around Rs 17 lakhs per annum highest being Rs 30 lakhs from a global corporate. As an additional information, I would like to include IIT, Madras followed by IIT, Mumbai. Now back to our discussion, there is no lack of opportunity in mechanical from the heritage institute such as IIT, Madras. All one has to do is to invest in oneself rather than investing in building your degree because the degree will make you qualified but your qualities will make you independent. From 2015 audited reports for Mechanical engineering, 50 students registered for placements out of which 42 were placed. The percentage of students placed was 95 percent. The median packages offered to Mechanical Engineering students were in the range of 5 LPA to 25 LPA. The average package was between 6-7 LPA on year basis (approximately). Many students also opted for roles in Management, Analytics, Finance and Consulting field. Hello, for top IITs ( Kanpur, Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras ) placement are really good. Many people blame the college for the placement but it is not the fault of college, it is individual limitations. Only those who are not sincere won't get placement and being sincere is not difficult there since generally in M.Tech you go for your favorite branch thus it's more fun and adventure. Campus recruitment is not a big deal in IITs. There are two type of mechanical engineering companies in India:- 1) Govt. mechanical engineering companies. Eg. NTPC, BHEL etc 2) Private Mechanical engineering companies. Eg. Tata, Suzuki, etc Both government and private mechanical engineering companies carry out the campus placement in older IITs. Most of the mechanical engineering graduates from older IITs refrain from getting recruited into the government/ private core mechanical engineering companies because such companies offer very less salary to its fresher employees and the employees have to work in the non-AC environment for most of the time. But, on the other side, most of the core companies offered a package between Rs 4 lakhs to Rs 15 lakhs per annum. IIT Madras is one of the well reputed institutions in India and one of the old IITs. So, it attracts lots of good companies for placements and the statistics are pretty good as such. For 2016 for Mechanical engineering 50 students registered for placements out of which 45 were placed (BE). The percentage of students placed was 91.30 percent as such. The packages offered for Mechanical Engineering students were in the range between 4.5 LPA to 22 LPA. The average package was between 6 - 7 LPA (approx). Many students also opted for roles in Management, Finance and Consulting. If you see the placement report you will find many banks including Credit Suisse, Citicorp, Goldman Sachs, Axis, PwC etc. You can see some big names like Bajaj, General motors, Ashok Leyland, L&T, Rolls Royce recruiting from IIT Madras. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras is as old as the college itself. Its impact on the institute and on society is easily illustrated by noting the association of the department's evolution with key events and technological advances in the India and elsewhere. Today, the Department of Mechanical engineering of IIT Madras attracts and features an exceptionally rich variety and quantity of talented individuals, with nearly 700 undergraduates, 500 graduate students, and over 60 faculty members. Just for your knowledge, this makes it the largest Mechanical Engineering Department in Asia. Who would not want to hire scholars from here? Talking about placement stats, the placement percentage is about 76% (in core). The highest package reaches about 40-45 lacs per annum. This makes the placements pretty decent.

Being in the the IITs (the best hands in India), one can expect the placement to be top notch as well as almost every company wants to have a chance to recruit students from IIT Madras. While the lowest package offered for mechanical student in IIT Madras was 4 lacs, the highest placement package awarded to the student in the same branch was 34 lacs. These are some of the companies who visited the campus during the placement season and recruited at least once from the IIT Madras campus sorted in the order of the working field in the Society FMCG Hindustan Unilever Procter & Gamble ITC Oil & Gas Schlumberger Shell Halliburton Transocean Exxon Mobil ONGC Mining Rio Tinto Joy Global Tenova Takraf BHP Billiton Manufacturing Tata Steel/Corus Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Dow Chemical Company Energy/Generation NTPC Also, these companies are among the most popular ones among the students but often pay less than what is paid by the above mentioned conapnies.
