    Mechanical engineering is very good and evergreen field. Talking about the placements of mechanical engineering at IIT Madras is, almost 95% ratio is seen every year.
    The average package of mechanical engineering at IIT Madras is around 7 to 9 LPA.
    Many multinational companies visit here and offer good packages to mechanical engineers.
    Companies like Bosch Group , Reliance Industries, Mahindra Group, Welspun, Larsen and Toubro, Tata Steel, Adani Group, Aditya Birla Group , Vedanta group ,Arcelor Mittal, HPCL, BPCL, Mahindra and Mahindra, Mercedes, Ford, General motors, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, etc.

    It is an Indian premier institute and the IIT Madras has the best placements of the mechanical engineering and the highest pack for this branch is 1.15 crore per year and the average pack is 15.6 LPA plus perks and the big companies like Honda, Hero, Bajaj etc. Visit this college regularly.

    The average package of mechanical engineering at IIT Madras is around 7 to 9 LPA. Many multinational companies visit here and offer good packages to mechanical engineers.     The placements for B.Tech in mechanical engineering are far better and most quality oriented.
    Although from all the top 10 IITs, the placements are remarkable and highest of its kind. The one thing that should be compared while selection process is the culture and the past alumni network, faculty members and the with least priority but still important location.
    Now, firstly talking about the placement statistics, the average placements from the college is around Rs 17 lakhs per annum highest being Rs 30 lakhs from a global corporate.
    As an additional information, I would like to include IIT, Madras followed by IIT, Mumbai.

    From 2015 audited reports for Mechanical engineering, 50 students registered for placements out of which 42 were placed. The percentage of students placed was 95 percent.
    The median packages offered to Mechanical Engineering students were in the range of 5 LPA to 25 LPA. The average package was between 6-7 LPA on year basis (approximately). Many students also opted for roles in Management, Analytics, Finance and Consulting field. The placement report will find many banks including Credit Suisse, Citicorp, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, ICICI, Axis, PwC, BNP Paribas, etc.

    Hello, for top IITs ( Kanpur, Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras ) placement are really good. Many people blame the college for the placement but it is not the fault of college, it is individual limitations. Only those who are not sincere won't get placement and being sincere is not difficult there since generally in M.Tech you go for your favorite branch thus it's more fun and adventure. Campus recruitment is not a big deal in IITs. There are two type of mechanical engineering companies in India:-
    1) Govt. mechanical engineering companies. Eg. NTPC, BHEL etc
    2) Private Mechanical engineering companies. Eg. Tata, Suzuki, etc

    IIT Madras is one of the well reputed institutions in India and one of the old IITs. So, it attracts lots of good companies for placements and the statistics are pretty good as such.
    For 2016 for Mechanical engineering 50 students registered for placements out of which 45 were placed (BE). The percentage of students placed was 91.30 percent as such.

    Being in the the IITs (the best hands in India), one can expect the placement to be top notch as well as almost every company wants to have a chance to recruit students from IIT Madras.
    While the lowest package offered for mechanical student in IIT Madras was 4 lacs, the highest placement package awarded to the student in the same branch was 34 lacs.

For IIT Madras summer internships, a candidate must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Working Professionals are not eligible to apply for internships
  • Students must pursue the IITM BSc Degree without other commitments (on-campus degree or full-time job)
  • Students will have to fulfill training requirements before they apply for internships.
  • Students should have completed 4 courses + 2 course projects at the Diploma level.
  • Students will be allowed to apply once they complete at least one Diploma course.
