The metallurgy branch though comes last in the counseling priority sheets but have very nice placements for the undergraduate students from IIT, Kharagpur. The placement statics are as follows the average placement from the recent and past years are about an average of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh per annum. As though subject involves a thorough study of inorganic chemistry, most of the students go for higher studies in this field. The highest package offered till date for metallurgy is Rs 23 lakhs from London. This placement is done through campus placement drive and thus shows the accuracy of the metallurgy department of the institute. IIT, Kharagpur is though known for its well and dynamic academic structure in non-core subjects where metallurgy constitutes an elite part. The placement trend in B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in IIT-Kharagpur is decent. Though, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is not one of the core branches but day by day more companies are opening their gates for the people. They are the industry people anyway. To give an idea about the present condition, here are a few names which recruit students of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur-American Express India Pvt. Ltd., Applied Materials Pvt. Ltd, Magma Fincorp Ltd., Avanti Fellows (Curriculum Associate profile), O P Jindal Institute of Technology, Bankbazaar, Bhushan Steel Ltd., Bosch, India Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technology and Reliance Industries Ltd. Apart from the industry companies such as Bosch, Bhushan Steel, etc., there are colleges also who look for the best engineers from IIT-Kharagpur. Around 77% people get placed, with an average salary package of 14 lakhs per annum. The highest package goes about 20-24 lakhs per annum. I hope you got the answer.
