How are the placements of B.Tech in Production and Industrial Engineering from IIT, Roorkee?

Indian Institute of Technology located in Roorkee is one of the best government colleges of India. IIT ranks in 9 in the list of top colleges of India. Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee offers many courses out of which production and industrial engineering is one of the courses which offers about 40 seats to students. It offers the students with hands on experience programs to work on real time based situation related to production in industry in interactive sessions. IIT-Roorkee is known for its great infrastructure faculty with 5 to 10 years of experience and they are very knowledgeable and facilities like Wi-Fi, Sports Complex and labs with better equipment and machines. It has collaborations with the local companies where students of it Roorkee go for industry visit and learn from them in first hand. About 80% of students of production and industrial engineering gets placed in the placement. Average salary provided by the companies is about 5 lakh per annum. Most of the students gets placed in the non-core companies. As it is a new subject thus, there are not many core companies for this particular course. Hope it helps.

IIT-Roorkee is one of the old IITs and one of the well-reputed institutes in India, so you don't have to worry about placements. According to the NIRF's ranking, it is ranked at 6th position which is really impressive. Let's go through its placement report of 2016-17 for Production engineering. The total percentage of placed students from Production is around 65% (this is low because the calculations also include students who opted out of placements for higher studies or some other reasons. If we neglect those students it will be above 85%). Going forward, around 22% of the placed students got into core jobs which is really a good metric. Around 22% got into IT jobs while around 56% got into consulting/finance jobs. The average CTC for Production Engineering was around 11.24 LPA which again is a good metric. So, the placement scenario looks good for Production Engineering in IIT-Roorkee as such. Don't join any branch or college just because of its placements. Try to find what you are passionate about and pursue that branch. Production and industrial engineering in IIT-Roorkee is a smaller branch of 60 students for the year 2017 with the least number of faculty members among all the branches in IIT-Roorkee. It is a one-of-a-kind post because you get to study a lot of management subjects along with the technical once. The placement scenario of production and industrial engineering branch is same as for mechanical branch because the same companies for which mechanical students are allowed to sit for the recruitment production and industrial engineering students. That being said most of the placements are done in the consulting sector which cross the average placement package offered to the students of match 2017 to be around 7 to 8 lacs at a minimum. At the same time being in an IIT can ensure you the best of the placements. Any college can provide you one in India and so is the reason why one must take up the same branch at IIT-Roorkee if he/she is really passionate about the branch. Cheers. Hope this helps.

Let me introduce you to the jobs offered to Industrial engineering students. Industrial engineers (IEs) apply science, mathematics, and engineering methods to complex system integration and operations. Because these systems are so large and complex, they need to have knowledge and skills in a wide variety of disciplines, the ability to work well with people, and abroad, systems perspective. Industrial engineers use their expertise and skills to develop systematic methods through the use of statistical analysis. If this all made you confused, in simple words, it is similar to a mechanical engineering. Let us now see some numbers. Around 63% students get placed every year from the batch. 21.8% get jobs in the core sector, 22% in the software and IT sector and 46.8% in Consulting and Finance, rest are in Analytics etc. The average package (in core) is about 7 LPA. These placements stats are of the academic session 2016-17. I got hold of this from the official report of 2016-17. I hope this helps you in making better decisions.

Hello, IIT Roorkee is well known for its civil engineering faculty. This does not mean other branches are dud, but simply that they are not as famous. This happens of course over a period of time and by the principle of bootstrapping a particular branch shines and keeps on shining. Placements of students are being given pride of place in this IIT and as a result, placements across all branches have been good. But alas, as in rest of country, may be due to sluggishness in an increase in industrial production, a certain percentage of students are not placed in spite of best efforts by the IIT. But on the overall basis, I would say that placements of production & engineering branch are also good in IIT-R.
