How badly does academic gap affect MBA admission and placement after MBA?

I have a 3 year gap between second and third year of engineering. I want to take admission into an institute like IMT, IMI , GIM or TAPMI. I have 96 in CAT, 99 in XAT. I have 85 in 10th, 67 in 12th and 58 in grad (expected). How can i explain this gap, and how heavy will be it's effect?

Hi aniruddh Yes gap is matter but we can not change past your academic good. now first try to enroll in good college and give actual reason at time time of admission then perform well in academics which can overcome your past mistake upto some level. and when you attempt for placement so at time of interview try to give actual reason to recruiter it may affect your job profile but dunt worry you will get job. But i must say you for this now you have to be serious for studies.
    Thanks
