How can I become a Chef? What kind of starting salary can I expect?

Hi, The first thing that comes to my mind by the word chef is passion, to work as a chef one has to be very passionate. To start a good career in food Production or to be a chef you should have a Degree in hospitality or hotel management or a diploma in same. Basically, you should be a hospitality graduate and then you can get into a management trainee program and after the completion of the program you will be a JR. SOUS CHEF but to reach to this level you have to have very good knowledge about food and all the basic and non-basic terms and methods of cooking. If you start your career as management trainee you will get somewhere around INR 25000 to INR 30000 per month and your salary increases to INR 30000 to INR 40000 after the completion of the management trainee program.

A chef is totally a passion based job. There are many master chefs in India who are really passionate in this job such as Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khana and many other. There is less use of the degree. A student who is passionate about cooking, knowledge about cooking and capacity to stand long hours in the kitchen. If a student has passion and literally make good food then he or she may continue in this field by doing a course in this field such as a Bachelor in hotel management and catering technology, Bachelor in hospitality and many other Diploma and Certificate course for hotel management and hospitality. After doing this course, one can get a job in various hotels in India for catering management and hospitality services. Many Indian and MNCs come for job opportunities in various top colleges. Starting salary depends upon the company, the quality of food they made and which type of food they made. Generally, the average starting salary of a Chef in hotels is Rs 4-5 lakh per annum.
