If you are mentioning BE for the educational qualification, then trust me it is not at all required. Whereas, since you are a Mechanical Engineer you might be faster in picking up Technical Concepts of AIRCRAFT.
To be a pilot, you require to clear 10+2 with PCM, thereafter enroll into any flying club, which will take care of the rest including your SPL (Student Pilot License). Best of Luck.

You can become a commercial pilot by acquiring proper training from flying club or academy and getting endorsement from DGCA, As far as the course is concerned you should have PCM combination Physics and maths in 10 +2 with 50% is mandatory and you may required to appear in entrance exams too, cost of training may be 35-45 Lacs. http://igrua.gov.in/Courses.htm.

Ideally, you should not be going to become q pilot after BE as your BE would be of no use and the years taken to complete your BE would be wasted. If you are interested in aeronautics then do your post-graduation in that specialty field.
