Hi, To become a general manager in a 5 Star hotel, you need to first pursue hotel management Course from a recognised university. Once you complete hotel management, you can sit for campus placements. Most of the reputed hospitality companies such as Taj, Oberoi, Hilton, Marriott, ITC, Accor, IHG, Park, etc., hire fresh graduates for their management trainee program. Once a candidate clears the management trainee program, the hotel provides a 1.5 to 2 years of On the Job training to the candidates. A management trainee program is intended to prepare the candidates to become future leaders in the industry, it is a very intense program which includes assignments, tests along with the job. After completing the management Trainee program the candidate joins as an assistant manager in the chosen department. A management trainee is always given preference in promotion and as the candidate gains more experience he gets promoted to senior positions. Certificate programs may offer a combination of courses similar to those in a degree program, which would be an additional benefit. Training: To become successful in this field, it is necessary to have a hands on experience. For that, you need to search for a training program. After you have completed the program, you may be placed as an assistant or general manager at the location where you trained or at a location where there is a job opening. Skill development: You need to have certain important skills like accounting skills, communication and negotiation skills, and also to learn how to manage the circumstances. For all these, the training programs would be helpful. Pay scale: A successful hotel general manager could earn Rs. 80,000- Rs.1,00,000 per month as an initial salary. It would increase with your experience as well as seniority.
