Since genetic engineering is such a complex field, earning a post-graduate degree can be quite helpful in getting to do work you are interested in. This is especially true if you want to lead your own research. You may be able to find entry-level work with a Bachelors degree, but a Masters can make you more competitive for prestigious or exciting positions, and a doctorate gives you even more of an advantage. Additionally, if you want to treat humans with genetic conditions, you may also need to become a medical doctor on top of obtaining a doctorate in genetic engineering.
