How can I become a merchant navy officer? Which course should I pursue after completing class 12th?

Hi Paramjit, You have to appear for CET of Indian maritime university which is situated in Chennai. B.Tech Marine Engineering is an undergraduate course. In this course, the students are equipped with skills required to design, construct and maintain the structures around or on water. This branch of engineering is largely concerned with nautical architecture and science. 2. 1 year course consists of 2 semesters and exams. After passing out the exams conducted by the University, the cadets will be awarded diploma nautical science by the university. The cadets will be joining on board vessel as a trainee cadet. They will have to obtain 18 months sea service (Two years time will take to complete the 18 months sea experience). With this, 18 months sea experience, they will undergo 4 months. Second mates foundation course and they are eligible to appear for 2nd mate exams. After passing second mate exams, they will be promoted as the second officer. 3.B.Sc. nautical science - 3 years medical criteria differs, so please check DG shipping medical rules. You are advised to appear for Joint Admission Test (Examination) conducted by Indian Maritime University for admission in Marine training Institutes. You can chose B.Sc Nautical Science to become a Navigator or B.Tech Marine engineering to become engineer in Merchant Navy.
