Companies have a preference for Bachelors in Engg over MCA since there is a notion that better candidates end up in Engg.

You can opt for degree courses like B.tech, B.E with specialization in IT or Computer Science or you may also opt for the BCA if you belong to the non-science background.

You have to first clear 10+2 and then do the graduation in CS/IT, better you do B.Tech., if you wish to be a software engineer.
