How can I become an actuary?

Hi Gerin, For enrollment as a Student member for actuarial science, one needs to be at least a graduate with a major subject in mathematical sciences such as mathematics, statistics, econometric, engineering and actuarial sciences. Generally, first class graduates or postgraduates in Mathematics, Statistics or Econometric will be in a better position than others to qualify as actuaries. For most of the universities the eligibility for an M.Sc in Actuarial Science requires you to have completed B.Sc. Actuarial is ideal if you enjoy maths and statistics and would like to use your skills to model future events and risk. The Actuarial Science examinations can be done through the ASI or IAI (Actuarial Society of India or Institute of Actuaries of India <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.actuariesindia.org/" style='word-wrap:break-word;'>http://www.actuariesindia.org/</a> ) which is the sole Professional body of Actuaries in India. The examinations are tough and will really depend on your ability for hard work. Actuarial Science is mainly offered as a three year degree course by some universities, or as one of the subjects of a degree programme. There are also short term courses in insurance or actuarial science, ranging from six months to two years. You need to clear a series of exams held by Actuarial Society of India, Mumbai. Actuaries employ a range of quantitative skills to evaluate risks and optimize the consequences of future events, with particular emphasis on financial effects and implications. Actuaries are employed extensively by insurance companies and the government, both for direct policy assessments and for financial planning; their value is recognized by the high salaries they command worldwide. Hi Genn, From the question it seems that you want to have information refarding actuarial science. Following is the actuarial science: Should have passed 10+2(HSC) or equivalent with at least 85% in Mathematics/ StatisticsGraduates or Post Graduate with not less than 55% marks in Mathematical subjects (i.e Mathematics or any of its branches; Statistics or any of its sub classifications such as Mathematical Statistics and Applied Statistics; Econometrics; Computer Sciences; Any discipline of Engineering; Subject in Science such as Physics or its branches).Candidates with CA/ CS/ CWA/ MBA (Finance)/ PGDBA Fully qualified members of professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), The institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) and Certified institute of Financial Analysts of India (IFAI) and Fellow of Insurance Institute of India (III)- passing with the subjects Mathematical Basis of Insurance and StatisticsA student member of actuarial bodies such as Institute of Actuaries, London; Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland and Institute of Actuaries, Australia Students from Society of Actuaries, USA and Casualty Actuarial society, USA , provided that they must have passed at least one subject from these bodies.
