To become an Aircraft Mechanic or an Aviation Technician, one gas to undergo three years AME course after completion of 10+2 with physics & mathematics. These courses are conducted by many institutions in India. In some places, there is entrance exam while at others admission is based on marks obtained in 12th exam. Once eligible, a student can select either of the two streams of mechanical or avionics. Merely passing the course does not make one eligible to work on the aircraft straight away. With the boom in the aviation industry, choosing to become an AME would be a good option with thousands of new job openings coming up with the growth of new regonal airlines under the UDAN scheme and also because of the rise of the budget airlines or the LCCs.
A person has to have a minimum qualification of 0+2 with PCM subjects in order to undertake an AME course. There are two streams in AME, Avionics and Aircraft mechanics. One can choose what interests him the most and can go forward with it.
