How can I become an income tax officer? Which course should I pursue?

By writing civil services examination and opting Indian Revenue Service (IRS), you can become an income tax officer. The eligibility for writing civil services exam is any degree and the age limit is 32 years or you can give the exam 6 times, whichever is earlier. To become an income tax officer, one should first of all enter the income tax department as income tax inspector or tax assistant. Then, they can get promotion to the designation of income tax officer after qualifying the departmental examination. First step required for joining as income tax inspector or tax assistant is to qualify combined graduate level examination. After that, personal interview is there for income tax inspector post and skill test is there for tax assistant post. Interested aspirants can apply for this all India level competitive exam either online or offline. Qualifying exam: The Staff Service Commission (SSC) conducts an entrance exam annually for the recruitment of candidates in the income tax department. A series of written, oral and physical tests will be carried out for the selection of the candidates. Those candidates who clear these tests will be called for an interview later. Who is eligible to apply? Candidates who are applying for the post of income tax officer must appear for the SSC exam. The basic qualification required to apply for the SSC is a degree from a recognized university or its equal. The candidates must be at least 18 years and not more than 27 years at the time of applying. Candidates can prepare for the written exam by reading materials on the topic. They can also go for coaching in centers nearby. At the time of the interview, the candidates must make sure that they answer to the point.
