Candidates must take the TISS National Entrance Test (TISSNET), a required entrance exam for all MA programs, in order to be admitted to the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) MA program. Shortlisted candidates receive invitations to the Pre-Interview Test (PIT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds after meeting TISSNET qualification requirements. Having a bachelor's degree in any field with at least 50% of the possible points (45% for reserved categories) is a requirement for eligibility. To be admitted to the intended MA programme at TISS, applicants must successfully complete these steps.

TISS Mumbai offers MA in various specialisations for two years at the postgraduate level. Admission to the MA programme at TISS is based on the TISSNET exam conducted by the institute. Further admission process includes a personal interview and application process. To be eligible for the MA programme at TISS, the candidate must have completed a graduate degree of minimum 3 or 4 years duration from a recognised university. In addition to the regular courses, Tata Institute of Social Sciences also offers MA and PG diplomas in Elementary Education and Digital Library Management programmes via its Open Distance Learning (ODL).
