    While there have been a number of writers who are also medical professionals, a good grounding in the basic sciences - equal to the General Science Minor needed for someone with a Liberal Arts Degree to pass the MCAT and complete Medical School - and a strong sense of curiosity as well as brutal self honesty, would likely be enough for you to be able to understand most of the medical information you would be writing about.
