You first have to clear JEE Mains exam and then only, if qualified in mains, you'll be able to give JEE Advanced exam. In this exam, you have to be in top 600 AIR to book your seat in IIT.
Refer good books, be regular in studies and most important, don't give a damn what others think.
    All the best.

If you are in matric you can start preparing for JEE. You have to clear JEE main firstly then after 1 month of result declaration of mains you have to give JEE Advanced test (if you qualified for mains) from 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 2:00-5:00 pm on the same day. So it is the examination of mind set. It is easy, don't think it's hard. I have also given it and clear it with regular studies of 6-8 hours daily two years with good rank of air 2013 but you have to prepare well in both ways in mind set and in studies.
