There standard track is to learn physics as an undergraduate, and then get a PhD. in astrophysics. The bad news is that there are more PhDs than open academic positions. The good news is that PhD's in astrophysics tend to be able to find work in other fields without too much trouble.
A lot of cosmologists end up being hired by investment banks for example. It seems that the statistical techniques and equations you use in astrophysics and cosmology are also used in finance. For example, the statistical techniques that people use to find patterns in galaxy distributions are also used to find patterns in stock prices.
