How can I qualify GATE exam? Can I work in the research and development department of a private firm after qualifying GATE exam?

I have done BE(2005 pass-out) and PGCC from NPTI(NR) (2007 pass-out) and I have more than 7 years of good experience in the core stream (electrical). Due to some reason, I could not pursue my Masters earlier.
