How can I understand if when & how to start preparing for IIT JEE as my son is starting his 9th grade this year?

Can a student complete his engineering diploma and appear for JEE or is 12th completion compulsory?

If your son is in 9th grade now, it will be good if he joins IIT Foundation programme from any leading Test prep organisation in this year. And he should start appearing in various olympiad exams, so that he will how is he performing compared to others in his school, town, across country, etc. He
