Preparing for NET especially English literature is no cakewalk. There's simply a lot to cover, syllabus wise. So here are a few books that'll help you. British literature (this covers most of the syllabus, so you want to be thorough with this part) - start with A Critical History of English Literature vol 1 and 2 by David Daiches and Routledge's History of English Literature. Indian English Literature - A History of English Literature by M K Naik and Indian Writing in English by K R Srinivasa Iyengar. American Literature - Norton Anthology of American Literature will be more than enough. Literary Theory - A History of Literary Criticism and Theory by M.A. R Habib ( covers from Plato to Foucault ), A Handbook of Literary Terms by M H Abrams and Geoffrey Harpman, Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory edited by Penguin publication. Above mentioned books are the basics and are a must read. Apart from all these solve at least 10 year's question papers and read anything remotely related to literature.
