How do people get a doctorate tag before their name starting? What do they do and how is it different from doing a Ph.D?

Doctorate degree is given to those who have completed their Ph.D in any particular field. It is also given to those who are research scholars and have an approved thesis. In the field of engineering, B.Tech and then M.Tech would qualify one to be a research scholar.
