How important are extracurricular activities for an IAS interview?

There are no special marks allotted to extracurricular activities, but they can be important during an interview. Before the IAS interview stage, there is a procedure where you need to fill out a detailed application form known as DAF 2. In this form, you need to mention in detail your family information, earnings, experiences, academics, and extracurricular activities in which you have ever participated. This information is presented to the interview panel in the form of a summary sheet. This summary sheet forms the basis of interview questions about you, as the panel only knows you through this summary sheet. You should honestly list specific hobbies and accomplishments in your response. For instance, if you never played cricket but mentioned it in the hobby section, you will be asked related questions in the interview. If you failed to answer correctly or appeared unaware, it will give a poor impression, and you may lose precious marks. Similarly, if you have never competed in any competition, do not fill out the form with made-up information; otherwise, the panel will question you about it. As a result, the DAF's extracurricular activities section must be carefully filled out.
