How is civil engineering in LPU?

Being a alumni of LPU, I would like to answer this question. During my post graduation I have few friends from Civil Engineering Department. I am going to share few points told by my friends that will help you to make your decision: LPU is ranked as the best engineering college in India, located in Punjab offers an innovative approach to teaching through practice-based and project-oriented learning. The university is equipped with the latest technologies delivering the most effective methods of teaching in its spacious campus. LPU offers specializations in Civil Engineering are: Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geo-tech Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, Hydraulics and Water Resource Engineering, Remote Sensing & GIS. University prepares its students for placements through special inputs in the form of placement classes. The curriculum taught incorporates specific courses (subjects) under the notion of Professional Enhancement Programmes (PEP) in which the students are prepared to crack the placement processes. PEP classes start right away from the first semester itself in form of Communication Skills and continue till the final semester covering: Analytical Skills (Logic Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning) Quantitative Aptitude Skills Technical Aptitude Skills Presentations and Soft Skills Mock Exercises (Mock Interviews, GDs, Mock Tests, etc. ). All a student has to do is to maintain a good academic record and personality to ensure his/her placement. Students are placed in companies like Cleanmax Solar, Al Rakha (UAE), Dharam Consulting, Era Infra Engineering Ltd. , KEC International, Simplex, WSP India, XL Dynamics, CVENT, Exceedance Consulting, Rishishwar Construction, Premier Developers and Contractors, etc. Hope this will help you!

Hello Jeevith, 1. Most of the faculty staff is from reputed organizations with their the highest degree from various reputed institutes such as IITs, NITs, etc. Apart from that, faculty has got previous industrial experience also. 2. The capstone project is an integral part of B.Tech programme in which students have to pick a live project based on the practical problem-based scenario (ideally from industry) and work for six months under a mentor and present a report at the end. This is beneficial to enhance your presentation skills. 3. There is an internship programme which could be an opportunity for getting work experience and increase your chance to get employment after you pass out. But, of course, your academic record should be good to get this placement option. 4. Industrial visits are organized to nearby construction sites from time to time. There, you can see actual construction work going on. Be prepared to have dust on your shoes (believe me, it will be worth a lot). You have to ask questions yourself and trigger interest in the activities around you. 5. You will get some courses from soft skills, English language, and mental and analytical aptitude side. This sounds dull to you as of now. However, you will feel its importance when you face an interview panel in a company during your placement drives. 6. They have very good placement records and good infrastructure companies visit their campus, L & T, Simplex Piles Ltd, Era Infrastructure, Gammon India Ltd to name a few. 7. Career oriented Software training in project labs is given. To work in this profession, you are supposed to be familiar with software like MS-Project, STAAD Pro, MX Road, etc. None the less, you will be trained in Auto CAD in your second year which is prerequisite for any Civil Engineer. 8. Every theory course is complemented with relevant lab-based practical work. Some of the labs are based on field testing where experimental work is to be done, e. g. Soil Lab & Surveying Lab. I hope that helps you to make a wiser decision. Rest lies on you. However, yes, four years is enough time to groom your personality.

LPU is a good choice for Civil Engineering. Considering the situations under civil engineering teaching, labs, exams, amenities in the campus all are par excellent. University provides a lot of resources for the students. Placements are in LPU is as good as compared to other private colleges. 1. The quality of teaching is very good and a lot of technical events and activities are organized at the department level by student clubs. One such student club association called The Bridge holds periodic technical events and student competitions in the department of Civil Engineering. 2. Some Industrial visits are organized periodically to construction sites, dams, hydraulic projects, sewage plants. This provides an opportunity to learn some of the civil engineering practices and emerging technologies which cant be taught theoretically. 3. It is average. Not as good as CSC or Electrical. The placements are mostly provided for other branches.

LPU is good for any branch of engineering. As you're asking for civil, coming to study, the skillful faculty teaches you better, but placements are a little problem there.

Being an LPU Alumni, I can say that LPU has experienced faculty members, well-equipped labs, great infrastructure, excellent placements, complete training and placement assistance and lot more and that too at a very low fees and high scholarships. I did my Engineering from LPU and many of my friends were enrolled in Civil Engineering at LPU, So, I will give you the exact picture of Civil Engineering at LPU.
