The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at IIT, Bhilai was established in 2018. The establishment was made by merging the two major departments; Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The college offers undergraduate (BTech), postgraduate (MTech), and PhD courses in Electrical Engineering. The academic program follows fractal academics which offers a scope of various modern mechanisms of imparting education. With around 50 UG and 12 PG students in each batch, the department of EECS at IIT, Bhilai offers the following state-of-the-art facilities to its EE students covering the spectrum of the EECS:
Computer Systems:
-High-Performance Computing and GPU
-Devices and Circuits such as PCB Printing machines, oscilloscopes, Digital multimeters, etc.
-Sensor and instrumentation such as Pyranometer, LVDT Trainer Kit, Strain Gauge Trainer Kit, etc.
-Embedded Systems and VLSI- C-DACXILINX FPGA Board, Basys3 FPGA Board, etc.
-Communication and Digital Signal Processing- Radar, Evaluation Board, Vertical antenna, etc.
-Electrical Machines such as Single-Phase Transformers, Three-phase induction motors, etc.
-Control systems lab- that includes Temperature and Intensity control Trainer kit and Setup, Magnetic Levitation Setup, etc.
-Power electronics and Power systems like PV Emulator, Grid Simulator, Converter Circuit, etc.
The Department of EECS, in collaboration with other departments, is offering other UG and PG Programs in Mechatronics as well as Electric Vehicle Technology. IIT, Bhilai also provides proper accommodation facilities to its students along with the mess.
Fee structure:
The SC/ ST/ PH students along with the Economically Backward students whose family income is less than INR 1 LPA can get a complete fee waiver at IIT, Bhilai. Besides this, the EWS students are also eligible to get a remission of 2/3rd of the total tuition fee if family income is between INR 1 LPA to 5 LPA. IIT, Bhilai also provides proper accommodation facilities to its students along with mess which may cost the students up to INR 34,200.
Fee structure of different courses in Electrical Engineering:
The course fee for B. Tech, M. Tech, and PhD in Electrical Engineering is INR 160000, INR 65000, and INR 62700 respectively. For international students, the fee for M. Tech and PhD programs in Electrical Engineering is INR 1.35 LPA.
Placements:
The Centre for Career Planning and Services at IIT Bhilai assists students in selecting their career paths and provides ample opportunities for internships and placements to help them realize this dream. More than 300 offers have been made to students with lucrative packages from companies such as Google, Amazon, Intuit, Sprinklr, Dunzo, AirAsia Technology, Paytm, L&T, Commvault, etc. in three years of its establishment.
Campus placement statistics for two consecutive years of students of EE could be understood by the following data:
- For the year 2020- 21, around 42 B. Tech EE students registered for campus placements out of which 39 got placed leading the placement percentage to 92.86%
- For the year 2021- 22, 38 B. Tech EE students registered for campus placements out of which 19 got placed making the placement percentage 50%
- For the same year (2021- 22), 9 M. Tech EE students registered for campus placements out of which 1 got placed leading the placement percentage to 11.11%

2019- 20- The average CTC of INR 11.21 LPA was offered with a maximum CTC of INR 20 LPA and a minimum CTC of INR 6 LPA.
2020- 21- The average CTC of INR 10.37 LPA was offered with a maximum CTC of INR 19 LPA and a minimum CTC of INR 6.5 LPA.
2021- 22- The average CTC of INR 14.04 LPA was offered with a maximum CTC of INR 21 LPA and a minimum CTC of INR 7 LPA.
Placements in the last three years for M. Tech in Electrical Engineering:
2019- 20- The average CTC of INR 7.42 LPA was offered with a maximum CTC of INR 7.42 LPA and a minimum CTC of INR 7.42 LPA.
2020- 21-The average CTC of INR 3.84 LPA was offered with a maximum CTC of INR 3.84 LPA and a minimum CTC of INR 3.84 LPA.
Internships:
IIT, Bhilai offers two internship opportunities to its students in a year- summer and winter internships. The Winter internships span for 4 months starting in December while the Summer Internships last around 12 weeks between the months of May to July. The college collaborates with major corporate houses, industrial facilities, institutions, and other organizations to provide internship opportunities to students along with practical and industrial exposure. For the year 2022, around 69 students from the EECS department managed to bag the internship from some of the top companies such as Newgen Software, TCS, Research, NewZera, Tomia Global, MAQ Software, Click2Cloud Inc, Arista Networks, VMWare, NTPC, etc.
