Facilities at IIT Bhilai:
IIT Bhilai, in a short time, has made numerous efforts to provide better facilities for all academic and overall development. Some of the facilities include:
-Central Library: The Central Library or the knowledge hub of IIT, Bhilai helps in facilitating the learning, teaching, and research activities of all the students, teachers, research scholars, staff members, etc. The library is fully equipped with both online and offline resources in the forms of CDROMs, DVD ROMs, journals, books, magazines, online databases, etc., and is also open on weekends to facilitate learning.
-Central Instrumentation Facility: The Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) was established by IIT, Bhilai to help its students carry out research work in advanced scientific domains.
-Health Centre: A health centre with round-the-clock availability is also housed on the campus. It is equipped with well-trained doctors and nurses and a 24*7 ambulance service. The institute also has a tie-up with nearby hospitals in case of emergency.
-Halls of Residence: IIT, Bhilai is a fully residential college and provides separate hostel facilities for both girls and boys. The college has two hostels with all the basic amenities such as clean water, wi-fi, washing machines, etc. including a spacious dining hall, well-equipped recreational area, indoor games area as well as a fitness centre.
-Sports Facilities: IIT, Bhilai offers its students good sports facilities to keep them in good health and also tackle the curriculum with an open mind. It has several grounds and courts for different types of sports along with indoor game facilities and a well-equipped gymnasium. The college also organizes a number of sports events such as Inter IIT Sports Meet, Prayatna, International Day of Yoga, and various others in which the students can showcase their talent.
-Workshops: Regular workshops are held for students to introduce them to practical skills such as laser cutting, engraving, welding, etc. in a unique and modern transit shop which includes machines like laser cutting and engraving machines, drilling machines, pick and place robots, etc.
Industrial training and fieldwork:
Students of all programs of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT, Bhilai are encouraged for industrial training and fieldwork to supplement their knowledge and familiarize themselves with the industry environment. B.Tech CSE students are encouraged for industrial training and fieldwork in the summers while the M. Tech. CSE students are expected to do research on or off campus.
Scholarships, Fellowships, and more at IIT Bhilai:
-Merit- cum- means (MCM) Scholarship: Students will get full tuition- fee waiver as well as pocket money of INR 1000 per month for 10 months. The scholarship is awarded on two criteria- MERIT, which is the CML rank in JEE or the last CGPA obtained by the students, and MEANS which is based on the combined parental income of the student.
-Institute SC/ ST Scholarship: All SC/ ST students in the UG program with a CGPA of 7.0 or above and a maximum parental income of INR. 4.5 LPA are provided free messing and boarding along with pocket money of INR 250 per month.
-Institute Free Studentship Scholarship: It is similar to the Merit- cum- Means Scholarship for the students.
-Institute Fellowship to Postgraduate Students: All the non-sponsored M.Tech students with a valid GATE score are provided fellowship for a maximum of 21 months by the institute. The PhD students are also provided fellowship by the institute for 3 years which they may gain for another year with a positive recommendation from the department.
-GSTN- CSR Scholarship for M. Sc. students: It is also provided on the Merit- cum- Means basis and the students will be awarded Rs 12K per year which they will be awarded in two installments- monsoon and winter semesters.
Placements at IIT Bhilai:
IIT, Bhilai has some of the best placements among the third generation IITs. The Centre for Career Planning and Services keeps its students up to date with the current technologies and sift skill requirements. A lot of students have been able to secure lucrative job opportunities in some of the best companies. For the year 2021- 22, more than 115 recruiters joined the placement activities offering job roles to students with an average annual salary of INR 14LPA.
