Hi Shreya,
IEM Kolkata is a state level private college under MAKAUT (WBUT). The college is not having a very good infrastructure. There is only one building besides main road. Therefore, there is no such campus which everyone dreams for. There is no canteens as well, you need to be dependent on the road side food which are extremely unhygienic. Hi Shreya,
IEM Kolkata is a state level private college under MAKAUT (WBUT). The college is not having a very good infrastructure. There is only one building besides main road. Therefore, there is no such campus which everyone dreams for. There is no canteens as well, you need to be dependent on the road side food which are extremely unhygienic. You are not allowed in the library during lecture hours. Library is not very good or spacious as the number of students available in the college.
The placement for CSE, IT, ECE is average and low paying IT companies like TCS, Wipro and Infosys visit the campus for recruitment. Although not every student get placement in those recruitment. College will conduct placement by merging UEM, Kolkata (their private university, which is not good), which increases the competition at the time of placement. Few years before, there was no such university, so placement of IEM only was good in the TCS, Wipro, Infosys. But now, the scenario is very bad. In most of the branches only 30-40% students are placed yet. But condition of CSE and IT is good as 65-75% students are placed including the starting packages from 1.8 LPA (means 13-15k per month salary).
The professors are average (that is why they are here in the private college) and you cannot expect too much from them.
The college is having a very hectic rules and regulations, which is beyond tolerable. You need to be in discipline in places where it is not required at all. You need to wear those uniforms (school dress) throughout four years of your engineering. If college timing is at 9:00 am, then you will be not allowed to enter the college at 9:01 am. Now you can imagine the frustration, that you are waking up in the morning for college and for that one minute you will be losing your whole day. On that particular day, you will be not allowed for any practicals or lectures, which don't happen in any colleges of India.
If you categorise all the colleges of the country in three groups, then :
1) Class 1: Top colleges like IITs, top order NITs, BITS Pilani, etc.
2) Class 2: nits and government engineering colleges and private colleges of national reputation like VIT Vellore, RVC, MS Ramaiah, PESIT, etc.
3) Class 3 : private colleges like IEM, Techno India, Haldia, Heritage, etc.
No good companies visit in class 3 or tier 3 colleges.
If you are not getting any seat in a good colleges, then only go for this college.
