The opinions about life at MIT School of Distance Education (MITSDE) vary. Some employees have rated the work life balance, culture, and values at around 2.0 to 2.7 out of 5, while others have mentioned positive aspects, such as the quality of education, flexible learning modules, and affordable fee structure. The school is recognised by the University Grants Comission (UGC) and the All India Council for Techanical Education (AICTE), and it offers a variety of specialisation and scholarships.

Every year, the MIT School of Distance Education hosts the Festival of Learning, a programme that showcases innovative approaches to education and helps students go from just surviving to thriving. The festival showcases the most recent developments in learning sciences, teaching methodologies, and educational technology through displays, workshops, and presentations.
Faculty, students, and staff are invited to participate in this co-sponsored event by MIT Open Learning and the Office of the Vice Chancellor, where they will exchange ideas and discuss ways to enhance learning objectives for international students and MIT students.
