Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy, or SASTRA Deemed to be University is one of the popular deemed-to-be universities in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. SASTRA was established in the year of 1984 as Shanmugha College of Engineering and conferred the deemed to be university status on April 26, 2001. SASTRA Deemed to be University offers undergraduate, integrated first degree, postgraduate and doctoral programs across multiple fields including, Commerce, Management, Engineering, Science, Law, and Fine Arts. Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Technology (5-Year Integrated), Master of Technology, and Master of Science are the popular courses offered by Shanmugha Technology, Arts, Science, and Research Academy. The undergraduate engineering courses (Bachelor of Technology) offered by the SASTRA Deemed to be University are of four years or eight semesters. Scholarships: SASTRA offers merit-based scholarships to meritorious and skilled students under the following categories: It awards merit scholarships to the candidates who fall in the top 3 to 10 percent of high scorers in their semester examinations. The candidates are offered one-fifth of the semester fee. The top 3 percent scorers at the university are offered two-fifth of the semester fee Facilities: SASTRA University has a library, hostels, laboratories, classrooms, and cafeterias. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework report 2023, SASTRA University recorded 88 percent and 81 percent hiring rates for Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB) (Hons.) candidates during SASTRA University placements in 2022. The median package offered to Master of Technology and Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB) (Hons.) students was INR 5.50 Lakh Per Annum and INR 4.50 Lakh Per Annum during placements in 2022, respectively. Some of the top recruiters who have recently visited the university for placements include Ashok Leyland Ltd., Maruti Udyog Limited, and Reliance Petrochemicals, among others. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework report 2022, a total of 1,601 out of 1,942 Undergraduate and Postgraduate candidates were placed during SASTRA University placements in 2021.
