Yes, why not.
Even girls are privileged on-board ship. Everyone is trying to improve the present scenario regarding ratios of male and female officers on ship. Some Institutes offer scholarship for that. There is nothing like molestation with girls, because everyone knows that they are under the international jurisdiction.
Personal Suggestion: Girls should opt for navigation side, it's easy, comfortable and suitable for girls.
But, it doesn't mean that girls should not take engineering stream, even they should but according to their physical strength and mentality.
