The University of Wolverhampton as it now is was formed in 1992, with a major expansion into Telford, and building on previous academic history as a polytechnic, and mergers in the previous twenty years with Teacher Training Colleges in Wolverhampton and Dudley (1970s) and Walsall (1989). It joined many other institutions (polytechnics and colleges) which became universities in a major expansion in the UK at that time. The status is granted by the state in the UK, and the qualifications granted through the university will be recognised widely and correctly.
