How it can affect my placement? Should I take a drop and join some other college next year?
I am a first year engineering student at Nirma University. I have got 3 backlogs in my 1st semester. I have scored 87% in 12th.

Hi Karan, You are a first year student so you have just started although its not a great start. But don't worry as there is not much you can do to change it. What you can change is right in front of you. If you want to have a great future the first thing is for you to prepare for your backlog and do well and clear them. Then promise that you will not put yourself in such a situation again. You need to take charge of your life and find the reason why you did not do well in your first semester. No, don't take such decisions. Preparations depends on you not on the college. You are the one who is going to face the future. Get prepared instead of changing college. Its okay sometimes, we fall into pits. Try to overcome them and backlogs may not completely affect placements. Write supplementary and from now avoid backlogs.
