    The maximum number of attempts allowed for a candidate to sit for the examination is five. However, the maximum number of attempts is not allowed for SC or ST candidates who are otherwise qualified and have unlimited attempt limit. The exam is usually held in December and the notice for the examination is issued a few months before the date of the examination.
