Hi,
IELTS is not a VISA requirement, rather its a English proficiency test which need to be taken by all the international students whose first or native language is not English.
All the good universities in US and New Zeland require a IELTS score of 6-7 bands plus.

It depends on the course and the institute you wish to study in. However, try to get a score of an overall band of 7.0 (acedemic).
