Students new to paper pattern can take up to a year or more, but the ones with a bit background or knowledge can grasp the concept overall in 6 to 8 months. There are students who study from years and still can't make to IIM's and even the fresher crack the admission process with less training. You need passion and determination.

You generally need 4-6 months preparation to crack CAT. It will be tough for sure, so prepare accordingly. Good luck. -
3 months are enough if you have a bit command on English. If not, 5 to 6 months.
