Every college has there own criteria to choose a lecturer, so apart from the educational qualifications or the minimum requirement, we can not generalize , what all it takes to be a professor . Some colleges may require 5 years of work experience or some might require 10 years .

Well said Prateek, without the relevant industry exposure, you can not be a good professor because without the knowledge of the industry and the latest trends, the quality of teaching will be compromised .
