The shorter way is to appear and excel in the UPSC exam and choose IPS. Y ou can also appear in the state PSC exam for this and then choose police service for which you need to be higher in the merit list. Another way is to join police force at a comparatively lower postion by being academically fqu

Hi,
In India, a District Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) heads the police force of a district. Superintendents of Police are officers of the Indian Police Service.
You need to apply for IPS exam conducted by UPSC.
