How to count backlogs for studying in Ireland?

<p>The backlogs can be counted by the following ways for the &lt;a href="https://www.shiksha.com/studyabroad/ireland/universities"&gt;universities in Ireland&lt;/a&gt;:</p><ul><li><strong>1 Subject = 1 Backlog</strong>: Some universities in Ireland follow this manner of counting the backlogs. This means that irrespective of the number of attempts taken to pass a subject, a failed subject will be counted as only one backlog.&nbsp;</li><li><strong>Number of Re-attempts = Backlogs:&nbsp;</strong>Some universities in Ireland count backlogs by the number of re- attempts taken to pass the subject. This means if a student took 5 attempts to pass a certain exam (say Chemistry) then, the number of his backlogs is 4 (Total attempts - 1 original attempt = 5-1).</li></ul>
