Fir admissions in IIT you need to clear JEE mains cutoff and then scire well in jee advanced. While jee mains is still manageable without coaching, you will have a hard time preparing for jee advanced on your own as this is one of the toughest engineering entrance exams. Still if you don't want to take coaching, do the following.
    - Clear each and every concept.
    - Make your basics strong.
    - Solve previous year papers in given timeframe.
    - Understand why you got a question wrong.
    - Increase speed and accuracy.
    - Practice high level questions.

It will be very difficult to crack iit jee without coaching as they teach you shortcuts for the various problems which you don't get in books. but as always people says that nothing is impossible so i suggest you to go through NCRT books deeply. try to underatand basic very clearly. solve as many questions as you can. books lyk arihant will give you good question to solve so that you can keep practising. all the best
