In order to pursue merchant navy as a career, one should have PCM as main subjects in 12th standard. You can give either of the following exams to get admission in Merchant navy:
    1. IMU-CET: Once you clear IMU-CET, you are eligible for B.Sc Nautical Science in all the colleges affiliated to Indian Maritime University. The entrance exam is followed by an interview and medical check-up.
    2. JEE: This exam is conducted by the IITs to get into the government colleges. The admission in T.S.Chanakya, Marine Engineering & Research Institute (Kolkata) and National Maritime Academy (Chennai) is based on the JEE marks.

You could give exams conducted by any particular school, like Anglo eastern.
Basic course after 12th is DNS-Diploma in nautical science.
