In most cases, you can submit the gap year certificate mentioning the period of your gap and the reason for taking the gap year along with your other personal details with the university application itself. However, most universities may ask you to provide a notarised gap year certificate, for this reason, you'll be required to visit the notary office, get a stamp paper and then mention all the above-mentioned certificate related to your gap year and get it stamped.
