    It is very difficult to generalize things but in general you need the following skills. Strong electronic fundamentals
    Hardware circuit design and analysis
    Analyzing schematics
    C, C+ programming
    Microcontroller/processor programming
    Knowledge of interfaces and device drivers development
    UI development technologies
    Linux/RTOS
    Debugging skills using JTAG
    Code optimization
    Using tools for static and dynamic code analysis and code coverage
    Domain knowledge.
