Guidelines for CAT preparation :
* To ace the exam, you require the right approach along with the right study materials and strategy. Instead of randomly picking up topics to prepare, get hold of the complete list of areas that you need to cover. The syllabus for CAT is never constant.
* Plan your preparation after knowing your strengths and weaknesses. You need to be organized and follow a time-table.
* You may refer to reference books related to the course. Some of the books are listed below :

It is good to see your seriousness in studies so as per query I would suggest you to:
- First you should start with self-preparation and stick to it for few weeks and revise your class 10 and 12th maths (CBSE/ICSE if possible) to strengthen your basics.
- By the beginning of of your final year you may join some good coaching institutes in your city which offers quality coaching for various management entrance tests.
- The number of hours that you are required to put in depends on your individual aptitude since you are a currently pursuing engineering so for you a minimum of 3-4 hours of self study apart from caching is a must.
